Man fined RM2k for illegal cockfighting in Siburan

KUCHING, Aug 9: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a man to a fine of RM2,000 for involvement in illegal cockfighting activities.

Chai Kok Ho, 46, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

He was charged under Section 73(1)(g) of the Veterinary Health Ordinance 1999 and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a fine of up to RM2,000 or imprisonment of not more than six months, orwith both, upon conviction.

He was charged with involvement in illegal cockfighting activities at a vegetable farm at Jalan Kampung Batu Gong, Siburan, at about 10am on February 14, 2021.

According to the brief facts of the case, a police team raided the vegetable farm and arrested the accused at the scene. Among items confiscated by the police were cash amounting to RM39,740, five live cockerels, two dead cockerels, a foldable table and a weighing scale.
