KUCHING, July 25: A man was fined RM2,000 or in default 3 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here on a charge of threatening to kill his older brother.
Kenneth Vinton Langang, 33, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.
The incident took place at the house of the 38-year-old victim in Taman Malihah, at about 5.30pm on July 18.
According to the brief facts of the case, Langang visited the victim to ask for money. However, the victim refused to give him the money, suspecting that it would be used by the accused for purchasing alcohol and drugs.
Frustrated by the denial of his request, Langang flew into a rage and brandished a kitchen knife, threatening to smash the victim’s head.
The terrified victim, concerned for his safety, immediately lodged a police report, which led to the arrest of the accused on July 20.
Section 506 of the Penal Code deals with criminal intimidation, and those found guilty could face imprisonment of up to 7 years, a fine, or both.
