KUCHING, Oct 31: The Magistrate’s Court here today fined a 21-year-old man RM5,000, in default 12 months’ imprisonment, after he admitted to threatening a woman to expose her nude photos and videos for ignoring his messages.
The accused, Ming, who works for a car rental company, entered the guilty plea before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.
The court heard that the incident took place at a house in Jalan Stampin on October 26, when the man sent threatening messages to a 26-year-old woman, warning that he would release her private images online if she did not respond to him.
The victim, fearing the material would be shared, made a police report that led to the man’s arrest two days later in Batu Kawa. Police also confiscated four of his mobile phones, which contained the victim’s photos, videos, and threatening messages.
Investigations revealed that the pair had become acquainted through a dating app and had communicated only online, never meeting in person. The woman had once shared intimate photos and videos with him and had even lent him money after he claimed to be struggling financially.
The man’s actions, described as manipulative and threatening, left the victim in distress and led to the court’s decision to impose a fine to reflect the seriousness of the offence. — DayakDaily
