KUCHING, Oct 5: A 31-year-old man who was feared to have drowned was found dead near the boat jetty at the Batang Ai Dam near Lubok Antu today.
According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 3.29pm, and firefighters from the Betong station were deployed.
The victim, Budak Tom, was found at around 7.02pm, within a 30-metre radius at a depth of 5 metres, face down.
According to the chronology of events, the victim’s wife said that the victim had gone to the riverbank of the dam to relieve himself when he was suddenly submerged and did not resurface.
“Based on her account, the victim was able to call for help before being swept away by the river’s current,” said the report.
The body was handed over to the police for further action. — DayakDaily
