KUCHING, July 5: A man who was feared to have drowned when he fell from a boat along the river at Rumah (Rh) Lasin Katibas in Song after buying cooking gas was found dead today on the second day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation.
In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the body of 56-year-old Sumok Jugah was found by villagers at 2.55pm, approximately 100m from where the victim’s boat was discovered.
The SAR team then went to retrieve the body before handing it over to the police for further action.
Based on the chronology of events, at 6pm on July 3, the complainant, who is a relative of the victim, Sumok Jugah, received a call that the victim had fallen from a boat after purchasing cooking gas at a shop.
The incident came to light when longhouse residents discovered the victim’s boat drifting upstream in the Bangkit River without anyone on board.
Bomba then received a call about the incident at 9.40am on Saturday (July 4). — DayakDaily
