KUCHING, Dec 18: A 58-year-old man claimed trial to allegedly sexually assaulting his underage step-granddaughter.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge framed when it was read before Judge Jason Juga at the Sessions Court here today. The date for pre-trial case management was set for January 21, 2020.
The court allowed the accused to be released on court bail of RM 5,000 and cash bail of RM 5,000 with two local sureties.
The court also ordered the accused not to approach the victim and her family members.
He allegedly committed the offence at Taman Matang Jaya Fasa 7, at about 3 pm, on December 11.
He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and punishable under Section 14 of the same Act, which carries a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.
DPP Ruthra Raj prosecuted while the accused was represented by Counsel Roy Angau Dato’ Gingkoi. —DayakDaily
