Man acquitted of murdering Indonesian wife

KUCHING, Jan 21: The High Court here discharged and acquitted a man who was charged with murdering his Indonesian wife in 2018.

Jong Siew Phin, was charged with killing his 36-year-old Indonesian wife at their house located in Kampung Bedup Longgok, between 7am and 1pm on February 9, 2018.


High Court Judge Datuk Lee Heng Cheong found that the defence’s evidence had cast reasonable doubt on the prosecution’s case and that the prosecution had failed in proving the charges against the accused was beyond all reasonable doubt.

Jong was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

The victim was found dead with slash wounds around her neck.

DPP Musli Abdul Hamid prosecuted while the accused was represented by assigned Counsel Mohammad Fairuz Masri Azizi Morni and Jubilant Austinway. — DayakDaily
