Man arrested for snatch theft less than a day after crime

MIRI, April 18: Cops here believe they have solved a snatch theft case that occurred on Tuesday afternoon with the arrest of a 22-year-old local man, less than 24 hours after the crime was committed.

The city police chief ACP Lim Meang Seah confirmed the arrest.

“The suspect was produced in the Miri Magistrates Court this morning (April 18) for remand application to assist police probe into the incident,” he said.

On April 16 at 12.02pm, the suspect had allegedly snatched a bag belonging to a 42-year-old man in front of SK Pujut Corner.

Prior to the incident, the victim was about to ride off on his motorcycle with his bag placed inside the motorcycle’s basket before it was allegedly snatched away by the suspect.

The bag contained eletronic gadgets with an estimated value of around RM1,500.

The victim attempted to give chase, but to no avail as the suspect had allegedly immediately fled the scene.

The victim managed to recall the suspect’s motorcycle plate number which was later led to tracking down the suspect’s whereabouts.

The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery. — DayakDaily
