KUCHING, Jan 28: A 26-year old local male was arrested by the police in Bau for operating as an illegal online gambling top up agent.
Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon in a statement today said the arrest was made by a Crime Investigation Department team from Bau police station during “Ops Dadu” conducted in Siniawan Sentral in Bau, on Jan 27, 2021, at around 7.53 pm.
“As the result of the operation, police have arrested one local male who is believed to have been operating as an illegal online gambling top up agent, and confiscated a unit of mobile phone, together with an undisclosed amount of cash,” he said.
Poge noted a background check conducted by the police on the suspect found no previous criminal record.
“The suspect was arrested under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gambling Houses Act 1953 and Immigration Act,which carry a fine of RM5,000 up to RM50,000 and three years’ imprisonment, upon conviction,” he added. – DayakDaily.
