KUCHING, Jan 30: A resettlement scheme is in the works for villagers in Kampung Annah Rais as part of the government’s efforts to develop the Bidayuh area, said Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Dr Jerip, who is also Assistant Transport Minister, said such a scheme would help facilitate residents living in the city and the village to have the opportunity to own their own land.

“This is to ensure that it (land lot) is always recognised,” he said during a ‘leaders with the people’ session in Annah Biya on Saturday.

Dr Jerip noted the extension scheme is also one of the ways for the villagers to preserve the existing cultural customs.

“Kampung Annah Rais has its uniqueness, and the various customs and culture need to be preserved,” he added.

During the ceremony, Jerip also handed over the certificates of appointment to the new Kampung Annah Rais village head James Stephen Kurik, including handing over the extension of the appointment certificate to Kampung Annah Sibuang village head Good Simat, Kampung Bisaya Nusaraya village head Iyip Tu-uh, Kampung Biya Kamas village head Dorong Kabut, Kampung Biya Assum village head Siang Sayod, and hKampung Semban village head Sagen Aden. ― DayakDaily
