PADAWAN, Sept 20: Relocation of SK Puruh Karu is the best long-term solution for the school which has been hit by a landslide and has been deemed unsafe to occupy by the Sarawak Public Works Department (Sarawak JKR).
Mamboing assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil came up with a solution for the rural school with 73 students, proposing a new site near the Padawan Subdistrict Office and the Braang Bayur Health Clinic.
He estimated the building of the new school block will require RM80 million which he will apply through Rakyat Project’s fund.
According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Dr Jerip revealed this after conducting a working visit to inspect the location of the landslide at SK Puruh Karu here on Monday.
During the visit, he looked into the condition of the school and the severity of the landslide and held a discuss with the school authorities, educational officers and district officers for the best method to ensure the safety of the students.
He proposed to accommodate the 73 affected students in the Parish Hall of Kampung Emperoh Karu Church temporarily while waiting for SK Taba Sait to be equipped where they may continue their school sessions there.
He further said that the transfer is expected to start no later than the beginning of the 2024 school session.
“A special meeting will be held to discuss the matter in more detail with the agencies involved,” said Dr Jerip. — DayakDaily
