KUCHING, Feb 4: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) former treasurer-general Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh has been appointed the party’s new secretary-general.

Malcolm, who is also Deputy International Trade and Investment Minister and Batang Ai assemblyman, succeeded Dato Janang Bungsu, who has been appointed as PRS Supreme Council member in the latest party reshuffle.

Senator Rita Insol remained as the deputy secretary-general.

As Malcolm moves up in the party, Edwin Banta, who is the first-term Selangau member of Parliament (MP), is the new treasurer-general.

Prior to this, Edwin was the deputy treasurer, whose post had been filled by Roy Angau Gingkoi, who is also a first-term MP for Lubok Antu.

According to PRS deputy publicity chief Andy Lawrence, the latest move was taken as the party’s top leadership has agreed that the secretary-general post should be helmed by an elected representative and best a Minister.

“YB Datuk Malcolm is the best person to take up the post.

“The rest of the positions (treasurer-general and deputy treasurer) are filled up naturally as the members move up the ranks. Roy, with a legal background, we wanted him to be appointed office bearers,” he told DayakDaily when contacted today.

Andy added that party president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum signed the appointment letters sometime in January.

Meanwhile, PRS held the party’s first Supreme Council meeting on Jan 14 at its headquarters, which PRS top leaders attended. — DayakDaily
