KUCHING, Jan 13: The submission deadline for the Malaysian Journalism Awards (HKM) MPI PETRONAS 2025 has been extended to Jan 30, 2026, giving media practitioners additional time to select and submit their best works.

In a media statement issued today, the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) said the extension was intended to encourage wider and more comprehensive participation from journalists and media practitioners across all platforms, including print, television broadcast, radio, news portals, and digital content.

MPI president Datuk Yong Soo Heong said the decision was made to allow media practitioners more time to review their entries and ensure the quality of submissions.

“This step is aimed at ensuring more inclusive and high-quality participation, in line with MPI’s efforts to recognise excellence and the contributions of media practitioners in strengthening the national journalism landscape,” he said.

He added that all media organisations, journalists, and media practitioners are encouraged to take advantage of the extended period to identify and submit their best journalistic works for the competition.

The Malaysian Journalism Awards is the highest national journalism award, recognising outstanding journalistic works since its introduction in 1980. The prestigious award serves as a benchmark for excellence while reinforcing professionalism and ethics in Malaysian journalism.

With continued support from PETRONAS as the main sponsor, a total sponsorship amount of RM450,000 has been allocated to honour media practitioners from various platforms.
