Malaysian army thwarts 5 illegal immigrants’ attempt to enter Sarawak via Biawak

KUCHING, May 22: The Malaysian Army (TDM) today has successfully thwarted an attempt by five illegal immigrants to enter Sarawak near the Malaysia-Indonesia Joint Post (GABMA) of Biawak area today.

According to a statement issued by the 1st Infantry Division, a joint team comprising the TDM and Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) were on patrol duty before they encountered five illegal immigrants walking at a distance of 118 meters from the Indonesian border around 10.30am.

“The troop then arrested the illegal immigrants. Upon investigation, all suspects aged between 20 and 49 were on their way to work in Malaysia,” it said.

Inspected items included cash, mobile phones, wallets and bags of clothes estimated to be worth about RM4,580.

“All five illegal immigrants have been brought to the border for expulsion and a police report was made at Lundu Police Station to ensure that the process is done according to the law,” it added. — DayakDaily
