KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27: Malaysia recorded five new positive cases of Covid-19 today.
The information was disclosed by Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah during a press conference at the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) headquarters at Putrajaya today.
“Out of the five new positive cases, two cases were imported.
“They involved a Malaysian who returns from The Philippines and another Malaysian who returns from Egypt.
“As for the remaining three cases, they were local transmission which happened in Melaka.
“Two cases were detected from pre-operation swab test and one case from a swab test of a person who is symptomatic or had a sore throat,” he said during a press conference.
With the additional five new cases, Dr Noor Hisham said the number of cumulative Covid-19 cases in Malaysia has increased to 9,296 cases.
He revealed that there were no new cases derived from the nine active clusters in Malaysia.
Dr Noor Hisham added there were 177 active cases in the country with eight patients being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in hospitals while six patients were on ventilators.
He said there were 16 patients who recovered and were discharged from the hospitals.
He added that there were no new deaths reported while the death toll for Covid-19 in Malaysia remained at 125 people. —DayakDaily
