KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26: Malaysia took centre stage in a historic celebration of unity and culture as it hosted the global launch of China’s “Happy Chinese New Year” initiative during the grand Chinese New Year Festival Celebration 2025 last night (Jan 25).
Federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said the celebration underscored the deep bonds between Malaysia and China, with both nations working together to highlight the global significance of Chinese New Year, recently recognised as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The event was attended by Malaysia’s Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who reaffirmed his government’s dedication to promoting unity through cultural appreciation under the Madani framework.
“This momentous event reflected the beauty of diversity that binds us as Malaysians, showcasing the richness of our shared traditions,” he said in a statement today.
The mutual visa exemption policy between Malaysia and China was also spotlighted by Tiong, with hopes of welcoming more Chinese visitors to experience Malaysia’s unique cultural tapestry.
Tiong expressed his gratitude to His Excellency Sun Yeli, China’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, for his support and trust in Malaysia to host such a significant occasion.
The event further strengthened the bilateral relationship, opening doors for future cultural and economic collaborations.
