KUCHING, Sept 23: Malaysia has officially been declared free from African Horse Sickness (AHS) by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on Sept 15.
According to the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), as stated in a press release today, this declaration came in the form of a letter from OIE to DVS, affirming that Malaysia has fulfilled the conditions established by OIE Resolution No 15 to regain its AHS-free status, which had been suspended after the outbreak of the disease in Aug 2020.
The department also noted that to maintain this newfound status, DVS will continue to conduct laboratory tests for AHS surveillance as required by Article 12.1.5 of the Terrestrial Animal Health Code.
DVS emphasised its unwavering commitment to ensuring that animals and livestock in the country remain free from the threat of diseases. — DayakDaily
