KUCHING, Sept 4: The Malaysia Agreement Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) is set to discuss the application for education and health autonomy powers for Sarawak in Sabah next week.

Deputy Minister of Law, MA63, and State-Federal Relations Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali highlighted that the meeting will focus on unresolved autonomy issues, particularly those related to staffing and administration.

“These issues must be resolved to grant Sarawak full authority over the implementation of this autonomy, enabling us to take decisive action,” she said in a news report by TVS today.

Sharifah Hasidah emphasised the importance of this autonomy, noting that Sarawak is better equipped to determine its needs and how to plan the development of its education and health sectors.

“We need this autonomy because we understand our situation in Sarawak best. We know what we want and how to plan our educational and healthcare development,” she said when met after officiating at the child advocacy programme for Kuching Division, held at SMK Semerah Padi.

Sharifah Hasidah also clarified that the upcoming meeting would not address the continental shelf issue, as it is not open to negotiation.

“This is our rightful claim, and we have the authority to enforce Sarawak laws. Land matters fall under State jurisdiction, and we have the legal right to define our land as we see fit,” she asserted. — DayakDaily
