KUCHING, June 28: The Malaysian Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK) has long played a vital role in strengthening the spirit of camaraderie and unity among government servants through sports and recreational activities, as reaffirmed by the successful hosting of the Ping Pong Championship under the MAKSAK Sarawak Games.
The championship was officially launched by Deputy Sarawak Secretary Datu Hii Chang Kee, who represented Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki at MBKS Sports Village in Jalan Pending today.
Organised by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS), the event drew participation from across various government departments and was attended by MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, MAKSAK Sarawak honorary secretary Semawi Mohamad, and MBKS city secretary Ita Ling.
Speaking at the event, Wee praised MAKSAK Sarawak’s continued efforts to unite civil servants through active engagement in sports.
“As government servants, it is our duty to give our best in serving the people – Berkhidmat untuk masyarakat. But to serve effectively, we must also care for our health. Engaging in regular exercise and participating in sports not only keeps us fit, but also improves our mental well-being, discipline, and performance at work,” he said in highlighting the importance of health in public service.
The Ping Pong Championship reflects MAKSAK Sarawak’s ongoing commitment to promoting a healthy, active, and united public service community.
More than a test of athletic ability, the event underscores the positive values of sportsmanship, wellness, and discipline — qualities essential in enhancing productivity and delivering people-centric services.
The championship is one of many under the umbrella of the MAKSAK Sarawak Games, which continue to serve as a platform for fostering unity and nurturing a culture of excellence within the civil service.
“Let this championship be more than just a competition. Let it be a celebration of sportsmanship, wellness, and unity among all who have chosen the path of public service,” Wee added. — DayakDaily
