KUCHING, Sept 4: Several major roads around Kuching city centre will be temporarily closed this Saturday (Sept 6) for the State-level Maulidur Rasul Assembly and Procession at Padang Merdeka.
In a TVS news report, Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the road closures, beginning as early as 6am, are necessary to facilitate the movement of participants and ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the event.
He advised the public not to park vehicles along the road shoulders within affected areas and to plan their journeys in advance by using alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.
Roads expected to be affected include areas near Padang Merdeka, Jalan Gambier, Main Bazaar, and several key junctions in the city centre, particularly near major hotels such as Hilton, Lime Tree, and Harbour View. Other locations in Satok, including the flyover exit and the Jalan P Ramlee junction, are also anticipated to experience disruptions.
“The public is urged to give full cooperation by complying with instructions from traffic police officers on duty at the locations, to ensure the safety and smooth running of the event,” Alexson said.
