KUCHING, Dec 22: Several major roads around Kuching city centre will be closed from 8am on Dec 31 to 1am on Jan 1, 2025, for the New Year 2025 countdown celebration at Kuching Waterfront.
Kuching District Police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah has urged the public to cooperate by avoiding parking along road shoulders to ensure smooth traffic flow.
On New Year Eve, the roads scheduled to be closed from 8am (Dec 31) to 1am (Jan 1) include Jalan Lebuh Wayang towards Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Market towards Jalan Gambier, and Jalan Lebuh Java towards Jalan Gambier.
Additionally, several roads to be closed from 4pm (Dec 31) until 1am (Jan 1) include the entry to Jalan Wawasan from Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg and Jalan Wawasan traffic light, entry to Wisma Pelita towards Lebuh Wayang, entry to Jalan McDougal towards Jalan Lebuh Wayang and SMK St Mary traffic lights from Jalan Tabuan towards Jalan Lebuh Wayang.
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys ahead, use alternative routes, and avoid the affected areas to minimise traffic congestion.
