MIRI,October 24: A major operation conducted by the Miri Immigration Enforcement Unit (UPI) led to the inspection of 11 locations across Miri City, resulting in the detention of 30 individuals.
The operation on Oct 21 was launched in response to public complaints and intelligence.
A total of 100 individuals were examined at various locations, including commercial premises, construction sites, food establishments, and residential homes.
The 30 individuals detained comprised 19 men, eight women, and three children.
The largest group of arrests occurred at a housing construction site in Luak, where 19 workers were detained.
The detained individuals are suspected of violating Malaysia’s immigration laws, including failure to possess valid travel documents, overstaying, and residing in the country without a valid pass. The detainees face charges under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
