LUNDU, March 7: Can you find a bowl of chicken curry or a bowl of pork leg served with kolomee for just RM6.00 and RM6.50, respectively?

In this day and age, with prices of goods constantly on the rise, finding two-course platings like these for less than RM10 feels highly unlikely. But at Yan Yan Cafe in Lundu, you can enjoy these hearty dishes without straining your wallet.

The cafe here starts its operations as early as 9am, serving up braised pork leg with kolomee drenched in red barbecue sauce as well as chicken curry topped to the brim with well-flavoured tofu skin and normal kolomee served on the side.

Located opposite the Lundu town square, this charming cafe is one of the oldest in town. Prior to being a cafe, it was a hardware store before turning into an eatery in 2009.

Yan Yan Cafe of Lundu is one of the oldest cafe in Lundu.

For the last 16 years, the cafe has been faithfully serving the town’s folks. In recent years, it has become a favourite among visitors and travellers eager to explore this quaint town located at the southern tip of Sarawak.

“There have been postings about our cafe. However, they were not done by outsiders but by locals.

“Recently, the number of visitors has increased, and business has been much better during holidays and weekends,” shared Ms Tan, 29, who manages the cafe.

For many, the combination of pork leg with red kolomee or chicken curry with kolomee might seem unusual, but for Ms Tan, these were normal dishes often served to customers of this cafe.

There is at least one more coffee shop in Lundu town which serves the same dishes. However, to D’Drift Team members who are Kucingites, these combinations are uncommon.

However, the true star of Yan Yan Cafe is not the pork leg or curry kolomee—it is their signature nasi campur (mixed rice), which is rice served with both braised pork leg and curry.

“By ordering a mixed rice dish, the customers can savour both our pork leg and curry. That is why it is the most popular,’ said Ms Tan.
