KUCHING, June 15: Lubok Antu MP Jugah Muyang today revealed that he has received invitations to join GPS but would prefer to remain independent until he “crosses the bridge” in due time.

“Yes, I have received invitations to join GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) but as for now I would rather remain independent, and support the PN (Perikatan Nasional) federal government and the GPS state government, until such a time.

“For now, we will cross the bridge when we come to it,” Jugah told DayakDaily when contacted today.

He reiterated that what was important was to bring development to his constituents in Lubok Antu which is still backwards in terms of much physical development especially roads, electricity and water.

“I was elected as an independent, so for now (after leaving Pakatan Harapan) it’s better to leave it that way,” he added.

In particular, the first-term MP revealed that he has received a letter from Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) to join the party as the seat has been traditionally held by it.

On June 5, Jugah revealed that he had left Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and was throwing his full support behind the PN government led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyuddin Yassin.

In a five-paragraph press statement, Jugah also pledged his support for the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to lead Sarawak.

“With this, I would like to announce that I’m leaving PKR with immediate effect and becoming an independent MP whereby I will fully support the PN government and the GPS government at the state level,” Jugah had told DayakDaily then.

He explained in his press statement that his decision to leave PKR was in line with his political agenda to bring development to his constituents in Lubok Antu.

“I feel sad that there was political misunderstanding among the component parties during (the time of the) Pakatan Harapan (PH) government which led to the resignation of the prime minister and subsequently leading to the fall of PH,” he explained.

Jugah also revealed that he made the decision to join PN after a discussion with his supporters whereby they agreed that he should join PN for Lubok Antu’s betterment and progress.

He explained that in the last general election, he contested as an independent candidate and won following a mandate from the rakyat.

“Soon after GE14 (14th General Election), my supporters joined PKR and after that, I also joined the party which was a component of the PH government at that time,” added Jugah.

In GE14, Jugah won a three-cornered fight against BN/PRS candidate, the late Robert Pasang Alam and PKR’s Nicholas Bawin Anggat with a majority of 1,059 votes. — DayakDaily
