KUCHING, Apr 8: The Sarawak Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) plans to install route maps at selected bus stops to improve access to information for commuters using the Bas.My Kuching service.
Its chairman Michael Kong Feng Nian said the move follows feedback from passengers highlighting the lack of clear route information at certain bus stops.
“While we do have a mobile application to assist users, we recognise that not everyone has access to smartphones or is able to utilise such digital tools,” he said in a statement after conducting an on-the-ground assessment of the Q12 Saujana–Hui Sing route.
As part of the assessment, Kong boarded the bus at Everwin Kenyalang and alighted at Hui Sing to experience the journey from a commuter’s perspective and engage directly with passengers.
He said such assessments provide first-hand insight into the passenger experience while allowing authorities to gather feedback on how services can be further improved.
“Bringing the bus service to established residential areas such as Kenyalang and Hui Sing offers residents an alternative mode of transport, particularly for senior citizens who may prefer not to drive or worry about parking,” he added.
Despite operating daily for about a year, he observed that the buses remain clean, comfortable and well-maintained, reflecting the commitment of LPKP Sarawak and the operator to maintaining service quality.
He said LPKP will seek the cooperation of local councils to allow route maps to be installed at appropriate bus stops to help commuters easily identify available services and plan their journeys.
Kong said that the agency will continue improving the Bas.My Kuching service through regular monitoring, engagement with the public and practical enhancements to encourage greater use of public transport. — DayakDaily
