SIBU, Aug 10: Flat residents in Sibujaya will no longer face low water pressure issues by the first quarter of 2024, after the Phase II Kanowit Water Supply Project is completed, says Sibu Water Board (SWB) assistant general manager Siaw Kok Kiong.
He said residents of 700 flat house units have been haunted by the problem due to water tanks situated on the top and bottom floors as well as the connection of new pipes due to renovation works.
“The problem of low water pressure is now only faced by flat residents, especially on the second and third floors, while there is no problem for residents on the ground and second floors. However, this problem only occurs during peak hours,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai said SRDC takes this problem seriously and the council has been working closely with SWB to resolve the matter.
“The people of Sibujaya should know the development of this matter as explained by Siaw. We hope that the people of Sibujaya, especially in the affected areas, will be patient in waiting for the solution to this problem.
“However, SRDC will ensure that any difficulties that occur in the future will be acted upon immediately,” he said in a press conference today.
Also present were SRDC deputy chairman Wong Ching Yong and Secretary Ng Siang Wei.
For the record, the first component of the Kanowit Water Supply Project involves the construction of the Durin booster station while the second component is the construction of a high-level water tank with a capacity of 3.5 MLD in Bukong, Jagoi, Kanowit.
The third component is the installation of a 55km pipe from the Salim Sibu Water Plant to Kanowit. — DayakDaily
