KUCHING, June 12: The drainage upgrading project at Lorong A5C in Taman BDC is now nearing completion, well ahead of its original target date of July 2, 2025, following proactive engagement between residents, the contractor, and local representatives.

According to Michael Kong Feng Nian, special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, the project’s early completion reflects the positive outcome of a constructive dialogue between residents and the contractor, which he helped facilitate in response to concerns raised by the local community.

“Following our initial visit to Lorong A5C to inspect the ongoing works, many residents came forward to express their concerns about the project,” Kong said in a statement today.

“In response, we arranged a meeting between the contractor and the affected residents, allowing them to voice their issues directly and constructively,” he added.

He noted that the contractor had taken the feedback seriously and committed to addressing the matters raised. Since then, the contractor has demonstrated professionalism and a genuine commitment to carrying out the works properly.

Kong confirmed that the contractor has stayed true to its promise to complete the project by June, and expressed gratitude for the progress made.

“This is a testament to what can be achieved when communication between stakeholders is clear, respectful, and solution-oriented,” he said.

Kong also thanked both the residents and the contractor for their maturity, patience, and willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue.

“This is exactly the kind of community spirit and collaboration we hope to continue fostering to build a better and more liveable environment for all,” he said. — DayakDaily
