KUCHING, Feb 11: LONGi Kuching’s RM1.789 billion investment to expand its manufacturing facilities in Sama Jaya will provide 1,730 employment opportunities for Sarawakians.
LONGi Kuching Sdn Bhd, in a statement today, said currently, LONGi has 2,959 employees, where 99 per cent are Sarawakians.
“Upon completing the expansion of facilities at Sama Jaya in Q3 (third quarter) 2022, LONGi Kuching will become the largest producer of solar ingots, wafers, and cells in Malaysia.
“These high-tech manufacturing activities are in line with Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 that aims to achieve a high-income economy, where economic prosperity, social inclusivity and environmental sustainability to be enjoyed by all,” it said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan was briefed by LONGi Kuching Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Ngieng Sii Jing on the new investment plan.
Awang Tengah, who is also Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development and Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, has expressed his appreciation to LONGi in choosing Sarawak over Vietnam for its ambitious expansion plan, which reflects their full confidence in the State’s leadership.
He also gave assurance that the State government would give its full support to ensure the successful implementation of the new investment.
LONGi Kuching started its operation in 2016 and invested RM2.1 billion in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
