KUCHING, Feb 25: A longer distance category, including the Ultra Natural Trail concept covering distances between 40km to 100km, was proposed for future editions of the Santubong International Nature Trail Run (SINTR).
According to a statement today, Pantai Damai assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said this was to increase the event’s competitiveness to make it on par with ultra runs organised worldwide and elevate Sarawak as a destination for extreme sports.
He said this year’s edition of the event drew in 360 participants, making up local runners as well as international ones from Brunei, Indonesia, and the Netherlands.
Other than being a sporting event, Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak, said that it acts as a platform to introduce the beauty of Sarawak’s nature while promoting eco-tourism.
“The Santubong International Nature Trail Run not only challenges the physical endurance of participants but also provides runners with the opportunity to enjoy the uniqueness of our tropical rainforest ecosystem.
“With increasing international participation, I am confident that this event can continue to grow and become a major sports tourism attraction in Sarawak,” he said,
The run this year, organised by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) in collaboration with Alpha Sports Event, featured three main categories: 6km, 10km, and 20km.
Dr Abdul Karim officiated the event, accompanied by SFC general manager Abang Arabi Abang Aimran. — DayakDaily
