Lone angler arrested for violating MCO in Miri

The 59-year-old local man has been detained for violating the MCO.

MIRI, March 29: A 59-year-old man has been detained for suspected violation of the movement control order (MCO) at a riverbank nearby Kampung Pulau Melayu.

According to Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, the suspect, a local, was detained around 8.45am by a team of police officers during their Ops Covid-19 duty.


“The policemen have repeatedly advised the suspect to go home after they spotted him loitering around the riverbank. As the suspect continues to ignore the advice, the police decided to arrest the man,” Lim told reporters when met here today.

Also seized were his fishing equipment.

The case is being investigated under Prevention and Control Infectious Diseases (Measures within the local infected areas) Regulation 2020, which provides a maximum fine of RM1,000 or jail up to six months or both, when convicted. — DayakDaily
