KUCHING, July 26: A local fishing boat with four crew members on board was detained by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) at 3.5 nautical miles off Tanjung Manat yesterday morning.
The arrest was made at 11.30 am when the APMM members spotted the fishing boat while they were patrolling the area.
According to the APMM Tanjung Manis director, Commander Mohd Ariz Md Kassim, the four crew members were all locals, aged between 23 to 60 years. A total of 240 kilogrammes of different species of fishes were found on the boat.
“The boat and the fishes were brought to the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) jetty in Tanjung Manis for investigation by the APMM officer,” Ariz said in a statement today.
Ariz noted that the fishing boat had contravened Section 14(4)(b) of the Fisheries Act 1985.
