MUKAH, Nov 22: A local C2 class fishing boat was detained by the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) for breaching the fishing license rule yesterday.

Tanjung Manis Maritime Zone director Mohd Ariz Md revealed that MMEA had received complaints from the public about a trawler boat catching fish using netting and breaching the fishing zone beyond the determinate zone by the Department of Fisheries Malaysia.

“Following the report, an operation team was deployed to the location to carry out the task in which they discovered that the eight boat crew were Thailand national and had a valid document.

“The boat was detained for committing an offense under Section 8(b) of Fisheries Act 1985 for violating the license terms,” he said in a statement today.

He added that according to the boat skipper, the boat originated from Mukah.

The fishing boat was later detained and escorted to the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) in Tanjung Manis for investigation.— DayakDaily
