KUCHING, Dec 15: Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) president Lina Soo sustained injuries after falling into a manhole at Tabuan Road last night while putting up the party’s campaign flags.
She urged for immediate repairs to be carried out, saying that repair works must be a matter of priority for the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) as such manholes could pose real dangers to the public.
“This is a grave danger for pedestrians on the sidewalk, and could cause not only injury, but death, especially if elderly people fall into these manholes,” she said in a statement today.
Soo who is Apirasi’s N9 Padungan candidate received bruises and skin abrasions on her right thigh, as well as pain on her right abdomen from the fall.
She was putting up Aspirasi’s campaign flags along Tabuan Road at about midnight last night when the fall occurred.
Soo said there was a huge gap across the grated manhole cover left unrepaired at the place she fell, along with several other manhole covers that looked old and rusty.
Soo, who has been spending nights putting up party flags since the election campaign period started, said she would seek medical attention if her condition worsens, but campaigning remained of importance.
There is so little time left with only three days more to go until polling day, she added. — Dayakdaily
