KUCHING, Feb 13: A faction within Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) has claimed to pass a motion to revoke president Lina Soo’s membership during the party’s annual general meeting (AGM) yesterday.
The claim came from alleged new Aspirasi secretary-general Andygie Gines, who responded to Soo’s claim that there was an alleged takeover attempt in the party earlier today.
Gines refuted Soo’s allegations in the police report and that all procedures at the annual general meeting (AGM) were in accordance with the structure of the party’s constitution, Registrar of Societies (ROS) regulations, and Robert Rules of Order.
“Lina Soo’s accusation that those present (during yesterday’s AGM) are non-members was not true. We call upon Lina Soo to show evidence that those present were non-members,” he said in a statement today.
He went on to say that the party had given 14-day notice prior to the AGM for a vote of no confidence against Soo’s leadership as party president and that the no-confidence vote would take place at the party AGM on Feb 12, 2023.
“At the AGM, Lina Soo kept speaking without recognition from the chairman. She was disruptive, causing nuisance and chaos among the delegates.
“Thus, the chairman has called for a motion to remove her from the meeting and also her party membership.
“A motion was moved and seconded by two life members present at the meeting. The Chair put to the vote where 90 per cent of the members present voted in favour of the motion,” he added.
“All the members clapped hands as Lina Soo was leaving the meeting room. Our party would like to reiterate that Lina Soo is no longer a member of Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak, and she cannot speak on behalf of the party, effective 1.45pm on Feb 12, 2023,” Gines claimed.
He then stated that because Soo has filed a police and ROS report, they will fully cooperate with the authorities. — DayakDaily
