Limbang Kedayan Association to have its own building worth RM5.9 million

KUCHING, Aug 8: The Limbang Kedayan Association (PKL) is currently planning on having its own building on a 1.64-acre land near the Limbang District Mosque at a cost of RM5.9 million, which has been approved by the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, says Deputy Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development (Modernisation of Agriculture) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail.

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Dr Abdul Rahman stated that an office space and a multi-purpose hall for weddings, programmes, and courses will be among the main components of the building.

Meanwhile, the PKL-organised Makan Tahun Perdana event was finally held after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

ā€œSince August 1, Brunei’s borders have been open, which has indirectly encouraged more visitors from Brunei to attend this yearā€™s Makan Tahun Perdana,ā€ he said on Saturday (Aug 6) while officiating at the 2022 Makan Tahun Perdana Cultural Night at Kampung Sayung in Limbang.

He said the event is part of the Limbang District Main Festivals Committeeā€™s activities, including the Babulang Festival and Buffalo Race, the Nuba Laya Festival, and the Medamit Festival.

Following this, the Northern Region Music Festival will be held on August 13 to 14, followed by the Badudun Festival and Buffalo Race in September, the Tiong Hwa Community Cultural Festival, and lastly the 2023 New Yearā€™s Eve celebration.

The Makan Tahun Perdana programme lasts three days and two nights, with a variety of interesting side activities culminating in the Kepala Kapoā€™o competition (Kedayan beauty pageant).

The event is also on the Sarawak Tourism Calendar and is financially supported by the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts.

In addition, Dr Abdul Rahman also announced a RM15,000 allocation for PKLā€™s ā€˜Makan Tahun Perdanaā€™ at the event. ā€” DayakDaily
