KUCHING, May 5: Ministry of Transport (MOT) Sarawak has called upon the Malaysian Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) to look into the possibility of establishing its facility in Limbang.
Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said Limbang town is in dire need of a permanent Puspakom facility to enable people to have access to vehicle inspection services.
This was among several issues raised during the Limbang Divisional Public Transport Committee meeting at Limbang Resident Office yesterday (May 4).
“The meeting also discussed the congestion at the Immigrations, Custom, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) post between Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam in Limbang Division.
“The Ministry viewed the congestion issue seriously and will recommend to the higher authority to upgrade the facilities and system at the ICQS to enable smooth traffic flow,” he said in a press statement.
Lee added that the need to set up a lorry and trailer parking facilities are among the priority areas highlighted by the Committee.
Currently, Limbang and Lawas towns do not have a proper parking facilities for heavy vehicles.
“As for bus service, the Committee will engage with bus operators to look into the possibility of reviving stage bus operation in Limbang and Lawas,” he said.
The Sarawak government formed the Committee under the Ministry of Transport to manage and resolve issues about public transport in Sarawak.
Deputy Minister for Transport Dato Henry Harry Jinep, permanent secretary to MOT Dato Ir Alice Jawan Empaling, Land Transport and Logistic Division head Julin Alen, Riverine and Maritime Division head Sio Yew Hua, Aviation Division technical adviser Jaenly Marten and other heads of departments in Limbang Division. — DayakDaily
