KUCHING, Oct 23: Libya is looking to strengthen cooperation with Sarawak—particularly in higher education, training, and trade—to explore opportunities that could benefit both parties.
In a TVS news report, Libya’s ambassador to Malaysia, Mohamed A.M. Attia, said the matter was among the topics discussed during his courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today.
He said the visit allowed both parties to hold preliminary discussions on potential areas of cooperation, particularly in higher education and trade.
“I am very pleased to return to Sarawak and would like to express my appreciation to the Sarawak Premier for receiving our courtesy call.
“This visit is particularly special because we want to explore opportunities for cooperation in higher education, as well as several trade sectors between Libya and Sarawak,” he told a press conference after the courtesy call here today.
He described the meeting as successful and expressed hope that the discussions would continue to help realise potential areas of cooperation in the future.
“Alhamdulillah, the meeting with the Sarawak Premier went very well. We will continue to work together, and I hope to return to Sarawak to follow up on the developments of the matters discussed today,” he said.
When asked about industries with potential for cooperation with Sarawak, he explained that the meeting focused on preliminary discussions and did not involve decisions on specific projects.
“As everyone knows, today’s visit was a courtesy call. We only discussed and opened several topics for cooperation.
“However, we will continue the discussions in the future, particularly in higher education and training,” he said.
He added that this was his second visit to Sarawak, following his first visit on Sept 16 for the Malaysia Day celebrations.
He said Sarawak was the fourth Malaysian state he had visited since taking up his duties as Libya’s ambassador to Malaysia.
“I have previously visited Johor, Penang, and Pahang, and I have even visited Pahang twice. As Libya’s ambassador to Malaysia, it is my responsibility to visit states throughout the country to strengthen relations and explore opportunities for cooperation,” he said.
He also expressed hope of returning to Sarawak in the future to follow up on the discussions and further strengthen ties between Libya and Sarawak. — DayakDaily
