KUCHING, Nov 2: Santubong MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has told the Sarawak government to let the court decide on the legitimacy of the Federal Village Community Management Council (MPKKP)’s implementation in the state.

According to him, the setting up of the MPKKP is against the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report and the Federal Constitution, which Sarawak signed up for in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

He said under the MA63, the establishment of any other bodies apart from the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), violates the IGC Report and the Federal Constitution.

“I have personally contacted the local authority to refer this matter with the lawyers, to find out whether the formation of MPKKP can be brought to court, as well as to acquire a declaration if the MPKKP is not in line with the ICG Report and and the Federal Constitution.

“If the court are in favour of this, then the formation of the MPKKP can be delayed until its legitimacy is decided,” he told reporters after presenting the minor rural project (MRP) grant and aid to constituents at his Parliamentary Service Centre, here, today.

Wan Junaidi expressed concerns that the formation of the MPKKP could cause confusion and divide the people in Sarawak.

“If the MPKKP is formed and the JKKK still exist, there would be two authorities. One of it is from the Sarawak government and another from the federal government.”
