Lee clarifies only 8 Covid-19  positive personnel at Emart Riam, not 60

Emart Riam's public statement released on Thursday (May 13, 2021) pertaining to the viralled number of Covid-19 positive cases involving their staff.

MIRI, May 14:Minister-in-charge of Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (MDDMC), Datuk Lee Kim Shin today clarified that the number of Covid-19 positive personnel at Emart Riam was eight only and not 60 as viralled.

They were close contacts to a family member who was associated with Jalan Lilin Cluster, explained Lee in a statement.


According to to him, Miri Divisional Health Office has engaged with the management of Emart Riam.

More than 130 staff were given appointments to do surveillance swabs which was similar to cases at Permaisuri Mall previously.

Emart Riam on May 13 (Thursday) issued a public statement that the management has done all the necessary sanitisation and compliance with the standard operating procuders (SOPs) requirement.

Those who are identified as close contacts were immediately sent for quarantine in accordance with guidelines.

Enforcement teams have gone on the ground and do patrolling on shopping centres.

Lee also urged the public not to believe unverified information or listen to rumours or believe in fake news.

“Please do not spread rumours or create or spread fake news. It is an offence to do so. Offenders are liable to stiff penalties,” he concluded. — DayakDaily
