KUCHING, Jan 14: Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has urged ministry officials to exercise firm and decisive leadership, highlighting the importance of commitment and courage in public service.
Speaking at the handover ceremony for the new secretary-general of the Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) here yesterday (Jan 13), Abdul Karim emphasised that effective leadership requires dedication, open dialogue, and follow-through on projects, especially in challenging times such as the post-pandemic period.
“Leaders must be firm and decisive.
“Fear or hesitation will prevent someone from being effective. Continuous discussion and teamwork are key to ensuring initiatives progress smoothly,” he said.
The ceremony also marked the appointment of Dzulkornain Masron as MYSED’s new secretary-general, taking over from Morshidi Fredrik, who has moved to the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts.
Dzulkornain, according to Abdul Karim, brings years of experience in managing entrepreneurship-related programmes and has been closely involved in developing the ministry’s secretariat and initiatives supporting youth and business development.
He expressed confidence that Dzulkornain’s expertise would help strengthen the ministry’s efforts in entrepreneurship and youth development, ensuring that Sarawak’s strategic programmes continue to grow.
“With strong leadership and coordination, our teams can overcome challenges and achieve sustainable results,” he said.
The minister also acknowledged the contributions of Morshidi, thanking him for his dedication in overseeing large-scale projects and events that benefited the State’s youth and entrepreneurial ecosystem. — DayakDaily
