KUCHING, March 27: Lawas will play host for the first time to the Sarawak-level Nuzul Al-Quran celebration this year at Darul Ma’Mur Mosque on April 7.

Nuzul Al-Quran is an annual celebration to mark the start of the Quran’s revelation, where Prophet Muhammad received the teachings of Allah.

Speaking at a press conference after chairing a meeting, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this year is primarily for Lawas people and those living around the surrounding areas.

“We will also invite guests from Sabah and Brunei Darussalam. The celebration will begin with maghrib prayer followed by breaking-of-fast with Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, together with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, and other dignitaries.

“After that, there will be a talk on Nuzul Al-Quran by Sarawak Mufti Sahibus Samahah Kipli Yassin, nasyid performances, Fardu Isya’ and Terawih prayers,” Awang Tengah said.

On the following day (April 8), a seminar organised by Sarawak Islamic Council on a similar topic will be held at Hotel Seri Malaysia.

Around 500 people will attend the seminar, which two facilitators will conduct: Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia’s (IKIM) Centre for Science and Environmental Studies director Dr Shaikh Mohd Saifuddeen Shaikh Mohd Salleh and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Dr Sarip Adul. — DayakDaily
