SIBU, Dec 2: An elated Carol Lau punched the air after she was declared the winner of the Miss Bikini Fittest Body title at the Borneo qualifying round for the Fitness International Federation (FIF) Asia Gold competition yesterday.
The competition also saw Aissamuddin Sapar emerge as champion in the Men’s category.
The Miss Bikini Fittest Body category saw keen competition from four female competitors.
“With this win, I will train harder to compete at the highest level in time to come,” said a jubilant Lau when met after receiving her prize.
She was awarded a certificate from FIF and a trophy.
Lau, 25, said she had placed third at a similar competition held in Singapore on Sept 18.
She graduated with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) two years ago.
“After graduation, I decided to become a personal trainer at a gym. Just last year, I started training seriously to compete in body fitness competitions,” said Lau.
She is also an aerobic cycling instructor at a gym.
Lau’s mother who is a staff of Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, cheered her on earlier as she posed on stage.
The contest on Sunday saw participation from 20 athletes from Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia who flexed their hardest to show their bodies at their best.
It was jointly organized by FIF and Solid Gym, Sibu.
Aissamuddin of Brunei, flew home with the overall Fitness title.
Enroute to the final, he grabbed two titles — Fitness Model and Physique Model — for the under 172cm category.
Meanwhile World FIF president, Dennis Tiew said the finals of the competition will take place in April 2020.
“As the competition is only for those with the fittest body, only those who won in the qualifying rounds will get to compete in the final,” he emphasised.
Other winners were Mulaidi Zaidi, Brunei, (Bodybuilding Under 70kg), Mohammad Saudi, Brunei (Bodybuilding Over 70kg), Edric Yew, Malaysia (Fitness Model Above 172cm), Mohammad Faizal (Fitness Model Over 30-years-old and Physique Model Over 30-years-old), Tye Wei Yuen (Sport Model Under 24-years-old), Zamri Muqaddin, Brunei (Sport Model Under 172cm), Lester Oneal (Physique Model Over 172cm), Audrey Ngu, Malaysia (Ms Bikini Model Under 24-years-old), Sim Sui Mei, Malaysia (Ms Bikini Model Under 163cm), and Norhafijah Mohd Yusof, Malaysia (Ms Bikini Model Over 30-years-old).
