KUCHING, May 11: Larry Asap has become the first Dayak representative from the Democratic Action Party (DAP) to be sworn in as a Senator in the Dewan Negara, in a ceremony at Parliament today which also saw three other newly appointed DAP Senators from Malay, Chinese and Indian communities take their oath.
In a Facebook post, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen who witnessed the ceremony said the appointments reflect the party’s commitment to multicultural representation and diversity in national leadership.
He described Larry as a long-time party member known for his courage, humility and ideas, noting his 12 years of service through DAP in advocating for Sarawak’s interests.
“Larry, an Iban who embodies the spirit of ‘Agik Idup Agik Ngelaban’, has long been active in advocating for the people of Sarawak and remains steadfast in his pursuit of a better Sarawak and a Malaysia for all Malaysians,” he said.
Yii added that the senatorial role is not merely a title but a responsibility to serve as a bridge between the people and Parliament, carrying public concerns and voices into national policy discussions. — DayakDaily
