KUCHING, Aug 14: The largest chilli farm project in Jemoreng, Matu, slated for full completion on April 2, 2026, is set to stimulate the local economy by creating new income opportunities for rural farmers in the area.
Covering 29 acres, the 18-month project will be equipped with various facilities including an office, surau, guard post, storage building, and other essential infrastructure.
According to Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) and Jemoreng assemblyman Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, the initiative aligns with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s vision to revitalise the agriculture sector and ensure a steady supply of fresh produce in the market.
“Thank you to the federal government for approving this Rural Micro-Economy project, which was directly announced in Parliament during the tabling of Budget 2020.
“The project is progressing well and is expected to be completed next year,” he said when met after inspecting the site’s progress yesterday (Aug 13), as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
Juanda also expressed his appreciation to the federal government for greenlighting the project and to the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) as the implementing agency for introducing modern farming methods to boost farmers’ income and improve the livelihoods of village residents.
Also present during the site visit were Recoda representatives, Matu district officer Hamidah Halpi, and Growth Nodes Construction Management manager Lydiawati Beki. — DayakDaily
