KUCHING, Aug 15: The Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) Dalat campus is near completion, with construction progress reaching 98 per cent, and is to be set apart from other campuses due to the courses offered.
According to TVS, Dalat assemblywoman Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah also announced that the new campus is expected to be officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in October.
She explained that CENTEXS Dalat students who are currently placed at the Mukah campus will move to the new campus upon completion, which could be as early as next month.
Fatimah, who is also the Sarawak Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Minister, said the CENTEXS branch in Dalat is set to offer courses that are different from its other campuses, as each has its focus and strengths.
“One of the unique features of CENTEXS Dalat that sets it apart from other training centres is the establishment of a language centre on campus.
“This initiative is in line with Dalat’s tagline, ‘Berakar Umbi, Berinti Budaya’ (‘Rooted in Culture’), which emphasises culture and language as the foundation of education,” she said following a courtesy call to the Premier at the Satria Pertiwi Complex today.
Additionally, she said that a course on fibreglass boat building will also be offered in the Dalat campus.
Since it’s a course that’s not offered elsewhere, Fatimah said it would benefit CENTEXS Dalat to be recognised as a skills training centre specialising in fibreglass boat building.
She further noted that while some communities, such as in Kampung Medong, have traditionally made fibreglass boats, the course will provide local youth with structured and professional training in the field.
Meanwhile, in a separate TVS report, Fatimah said that Abang Johari is expected to officiate the Pesta Besaug 2025 set to take place in October.
She said she also discussed the Dalat Boutique Hotel with Abang Johari, in which he agreed that the State government will fund construction while its operations will be handed over to the private sector.
In May 2024, Abang Johari officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the hotel project. — DayakDaily
