KUCHING, Dec 12: A landslide damaged a residential house in Kampung Gahat Mawang, Tebedu, yesterday afternoon (Dec 14), forcing two occupants to temporarily relocate, though no injuries or fatalities were reported.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call regarding the incident at 6.07pm, with a team from BBP Serian dispatched to the scene, located approximately 45 kilometres away.
The landslide was reported to have occurred earlier at about 4pm, involving soil movement in front of the affected house. Firefighters arrived at the location at 7.05pm, and the situation was brought under control within 10 minutes.
Upon inspection, Bomba confirmed that the living room and bedroom of the house were completely destroyed, suffering 100 per cent damage.
At the time of the incident, the occupants, a married couple were in the kitchen, which allowed them to escape unharmed.
The victims were identified as Dominic Auh and Monica Kujen, both of whom were reported to be safe. They have since moved to a relative’s house as a temporary safety measure.
A total of two firefighters, supported by one four-wheel drive vehicle, were involved in the operation, which concluded at 7.28pm. Officers from the Serian District Office (UKPS) were also present at the scene.
No further risks were detected following monitoring and assessment by the responding team. — DayakDaily
