“The Kapit Public Works Department (JKR) has informed us that the diversion work at the scene is currently being carried out since this morning.

“I have also requested the department to monitor all road sections up to Baleh HEP Dam and potential areas at risk for erosion since it is now rainy season,” he said when contacted by DayakDaily today.

Based on the details from the Kapit JKR, Nicholas said the disaster was believed to have occurred approximately at 5am, causing both sides of the road impassable by road users.

The department has taken immediate action by executing TMP (Traffic Management Plan) and placing barriers at the affected route, while the construction of road diversion to make it passable is expected to be completed by late evening or tomorrow morning (Aug 27).

In addition, based on visual inspection at the scene, the department stated that there is groundwater sipping underneath the road surface.
