KUCHING, Nov 7: The Land and Survey Department has been urged to expedite the surveying of Bidayuh land under Section 18 as initiated by Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA).

The three Bidayuh leaders who highlighted this issue today are Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Jinep, Miro Simuh (Serembu) and John Ilus (Bukit Semuja) who urged the department to do the necessary quickly.

They reiterated that since DBNA has done the initiative to carry out the perimeter survey in most Bidayuh villages, they are now hoping the Land and Survey Department will expedite the issuance of individual titles under Sector 18.

“There has not been much progress on the individual survey after the issuance of Section 6 in Bidayuh area. We are appealing to the relevant agencies to expedite the issuance of individual lots under Section 18, as this has become a recycled issue,” Henry told a news conference at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex here today.

He added that once the individual titles are issued, it would be easier for the respective owners to develop their land including getting loans to build their houses under the Rumah Mesra programme.

Miro hoped that the initiative carried out by DBNA to conduct perimeter surveys and even individuals could be recognised for their efforts by the Land and Survey Department.

“We are with the government but we want to see progress on the individuals lots in order to stop all the criticism made by certain quarters,” he said.

Meanwhile, John expressed belief that the Land and Survey Department recognised the efforts made by DBNA.

“We have been moving around to the ground to urge the people to support the GPS government and also our association. So, it’s important that this issue is settled amicably,” added John. — DayakDaily
