KUCHING, July 6: If you are a non-Muslim and are aged between 18 and 26 years, take note: entries are now open for Miss World Malaysia 2018.
Themed ‘Beauty with a Purpose’, the ‘Charity Gala and Coronation Night’ will be held this Sept 8 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
The Miss World Malaysia crown is the top draw, and those aged 27 and 28 years can vie for other titles.
There are two new titles this year: Miss Multinational Malaysia 2018 and Miss Eco Malaysia.
Those interested to take part must submit their applications by this July 31. The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak is supporting this event.
“Our vision is to lead the advancement of Sarawak’s tourism, arts, culture, youth and sports. We aim to position Sarawak as a premier tourist destination and showcase its unique arts and culture.
“By supporting this global event, ardent followers of Miss World events may also have the opportunity to learn more about Sarawak and our beautiful country,” said Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at a press conference here today.
Sean Wong, an award-wining social entrepreneur, in partnership with Arnold Vegafria, president of ALV Events International and famed business manager of boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, has been appointed as the new licensee and national director of Miss World Malaysia 2018.
“We aim to raise at least RM100,000 for charity this year. We are inviting all candidates who are competing at Miss World Malaysia to join hands in preserving the legacy of Miss World Malaysia,” said Wong.
Also present at the press conference was Miss World 2016 Stephanie Del Valle.
The official event organiser and presenter of Miss World Malaysia 2018 is Creative Teamlab Sdn Bhd. Asia Music City at Quill City Mall, Kuala Lumpur, has been confirmed to be the official venue partner for the selection rounds, while in Kuching, it will be held at Hilton Kuching.
The winner of Miss World Malaysia 2018 will receive RM30,000 cash and RM30,000 worth of prizes, be given the opportunity to undergo intensive personal grooming by celebrity image consultant Ida Ong; enjoy a photo-shoot by award-winning celebrity photographer Billy Mork, enjoy a one-month stay in Hainan, China, and represent Malaysia at the prestigious Miss World 2018 Grand Finals.
The annual Miss World Finals, aired live to approximately 180 countries yearly, attracts more than one billion viewers and consistently ranks among the most watched live annual entertainment telecasts in the world.
