Labourer faces possible hanging after charged with trafficking half kilo of ganja

KUCHING, Dec 2: A laborer claimed trial to a charge of trafficking 498.6 grammes of cannabis.

Nor Harizewan Arun, 26, pleaded not guilty before High Court Judge Azhahari Kamal Ramli who then fixed January 5, 2022 for the mention of the case and June 21 to 24 for the trial of the case.

The judge also ordered the accused to be further remanded by the police.

Nor Harizewan was charged with trafficking 498.6 grammes of cannabis inside a car parked at Plaza Tabuan Tranquility, Jalan Canna, at about 4.20pm on July 9, 2021.

He was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, which carries a death sentence or life imprisonment, and with at least 15 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
